The Unexpected Turned into Meaningful

Hello you! 

I’m Maria, the founder of Retaste Project.

Like many sustainability journeys, ours began with curiosity and some dissatisfaction.

I’ve been a more conscious consumer for some years now. I usually strive to make a difference through small, meaningful actions—like cooking. But I quickly realized how challenging it was to find products that aligned with my values.

For example, I’d find a product I loved, only to discover it was made under unfair labor conditions. Or I’d buy something labeled “eco-friendly” that came wrapped in endless layers of plastic. And when I finally found a product that checked all the boxes—fair, sustainable, and high-quality—it often came with a hefty price tag or required too much time to use.

Frustrated by these limitations, I decided to create my own solution. That’s how Retaste was born.

Our goal is to help you stay healthy and empower you to reduce food waste and support sustainability—all in one simple step.

Our work is guided by two core principles:

Food Waste, why do we actually care?

Let’s get real—food waste isn’t just about sad, wilted veggies in the back of your fridge. It’s a global problem with some jaw-dropping facts:

💧25% of all drinkable water? Wasted on food that never even gets eaten.

🌱11% of farmland grows crops destined straight for the trash.

 

And it’s not just the food—think of the water, energy, and hard work behind it, all ending up in landfills.

But wait, it gets worse! Once food hits the dump, it releases methane, a greenhouse gas way more potent than CO₂. Not exactly the legacy we want to leave behind.

So here’s the message in a few words:

🌍 Wasting food = wasting our planet.

As the population grows, we’re demanding more from the Earth, but chucking out a massive chunk of what we produce. That’s not just bad for the environment—it widens the gap on social inequality and food insecurity.

Our proposal: Less waste. More taste.
